ABP achieved a major success by winning the water management category at last nights Sustainable Leaders Awards at a prestigious ceremony in London.

The award which was given in recognition of the work ABP have carried out on water recycling and efficiency at its Sturminster Newton plant in Dorset beat some stiff competition from a number of leading companies like Coca Cola and Aviva.

The company have invested heavily in the Dorset site since it was purchased in 2009. A significant modernisation programme has focused on water use included a major project to reduce water use, including monitoring and the installation of a reverse osmosis system for reusing and recycling of water.

Tom Kirwan, managing director of ABP UK, said: “This is a great achievement for ABP UK and the Sturminster Newton site. It is always nice to receive independent recognition but this prestigious award is extremely special as the awards are open to all businesses and it is great to see the meat industries sustainability credentials being measured alongside other sectors of the economy.

“This is the second time in a month that we have received an award for this project and it is a great endorsement of the hard work carried out by all the staff involvement in our Sturminster Newton modernisation programme.”
